Biographical Statement
I was born and grew up in Germany but have since then spent several years in each of the three nations making up GB: I completed my secondary education at the United World College of the Atlantic in Wales, obtained my PhD in Mathematics at the University of Cambridge (DAMTP) in 1993, and moved to Edinburgh in 2000.
Previous Employment
I worked as a post doc in Durham, and Amsterdam and as an EPSRC advanced research fellow at the University of Edinburgh before joining the Department of Mathematics at Heriot-Watt University in 2000, initially as a lecturer. I was Head of the Department of Mathematics at Heriot-Watt University during 2014-17, and moved to the University of Edinburgh as Head of the School of Mathematics in August 2022.
