Social Program

We have planned the following social activities, which are subject to changes.

Saturday, 11 June: Day of arrival

We will start the institute with an informal get-together in the evening. The event will take place in St Trinnean's room at St Leonard's Hall from from 8.00 to 9.30 pm.

Sunday, 12 June: First outdoor activity

We start with a joint hike to Arthur’s Seat in the morning, an extinct volcano located just in front of Pollock Halls, followed by a guided city tour of Edinburgh at 2 pm. In the unlikely case that the weather is too bad for hiking, the activity will be replaced by a guided visit to the National Museum of Scotland, located also in the city centre and close to the Bayes Centre.

Meeting point: Main entrance to St Leonard's Hall
Meeting time: tbc

Tuesday, 14 June: Scottish Cèilidh

We are going to have a night of jolly dancing to relax from a long and intensive working day with a traditional Cèilidh at Summerhall from 8-10 pm.

Saturday, 18 June: Second outdoor activity

on a walk along the coast to Tantallon Castle, a ruined mid-14th-century fortress. After lunch in the village, we are going on a boat trip to the famous Bass Rock, with its stunning population of gannets and puffins. We are rounding up the day with a typical fish & chips supper and a walk on the beach.

Sunday, 19 June: Free day

This is a free day for resting or for some further excursions, for example to Stirling, once a capital of Scotland, and its scenic Castle and Wallace Monument.

Tuesday, 21 June: Visit to Holyrood Distillery

We are visiting Holyrood Distillery at the foot of Arthur's Seat for a whiskey tasting and tour from 5-7 pm. Most likely, we will leave all together from ICMS.

Wednesday, 22 June: Gala dinner

This was originally planned for Friday, but due to limited availability of venues we had to move it ahead in time.
