PhD Student Ruoyuan Liu awarded Sir William Darling Memorial Prize 2023

Our 2nd year Ph.D. student, Ruoyuan Liu, under the supervision of Prof. Tadahiro Oh, has been awarded this year's Sir William Darling Memorial Prize.

This university-wide prize is awarded to an individual or group of students who have excelled in enhancing the reputation of the University. Prof. Oh commented that Ruoyuan's conduct, example, scholarship, and pre-eminence in sport and academia were most deserving of the award.

Ruoyuan completed in the BUCS-UPC Snooker Championships, 2023. (BUCS stands for "British Universities and Colleges Sport" and UPC stands for "Universities Pool Council"), which is the national snooker competition for university students in the UK. In terms of academia, Ruoyuan has written 8 papers with 6 of them published/accepted in journals, including the prestigious Mathematical Research Letters and Journal de Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées. As one of his achievements, Ruoyuan has solved an open problem of 30 years.

The prize will be presented to Ruoyuan at the Freshers' Welcoming Ceremony in September. Congratulations, Ruoyuan!!
