First Edinburgh Maths Circle a Success
On the morning of Saturday 28th May, the School of Mathematics hosted the first Edinburgh Maths Circle. This event, organised by the Maths Outreach Team, gave local children and their families the opportunity to engage with maths activities in a fun and friendly environment, with the support of current staff and students from the School of Mathematics. Over 250 visitors attended, and feedback was overwhelmingly positive: 97% of the 63 survey respondents rated the event as good or excellent, with many asking if the event could be made weekly or monthly. Following this great success, the Maths Outreach Team hope to start up regular Maths Circle events in the autumn - this time with more biscuits!
Thank you to Mairi Walker (Mathematics Engagement Officer) and Zoe Wyatt (MIGSAA PhD Student) for their hard work in organising the event, as well as to the volunteer helpers who ensured that the day was a success.
