UKRI AI Hubs

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), has invested £80 million in the new hubs that will propel the UK to the forefront of advanced AI research. We are excited that researchers from the School of Mathematics are involved in two of these 9 new research hubs, hosted at Lancaster University, and University of Edinburgh.

Aretha Teckentrup (with Sara Wade and Iain Murray) is leading the Edinburgh node of one of the recently awarded AI Hubs. ProbAI: a Hub for the Mathematical and Computational Foundations of Probabilistic AI is led by Lancaster University and also involves Bristol, Cambridge, Manchester and Warwick universities. The hub will explore ways to embed probability models, probabilistic reasoning and measures of uncertainty within AI methods.

Sjoerd Beentjes is a CoI on the AI Hub being led by the School of Engineering, CHAI: AI hub for Causality in Healthcare AI with Real Data. This hub aims to improve healthcare using AI by predicting outcomes and personalising treatments. The hub will develop novel methods to unravel complex causal relationships with healthcare data.
