Dr Newman joins the Natural Environment Research Council's Special Committee on Seals
Dr Ken Newman has accepted an invitation to become a member of the Natural Environment Research Council's Special Committee on Seals (SCOS) for a three year term starting in 2018. The SCOS meets annually, typically in September, for a three day meeting to approve the annual scientific advice paper prepared by the Sea Mammal Research Unit for the Scottish Government and the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs at the Committee meetings. A state-space model for the population dynamics and movement of the British grey seal population, which is one of the components of the scientific advice paper, has its origins in work by Newman and colleagues at St Andrews begun in 2002.
