Filming begins for School's first MOOC
Filming has begun for the School of Mathematics' first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). The MOOC, which will be titled Statistics: Unlocking the World of Data, introduces some of the key ideas and methods of statistics, and aims to attract participants from all over the world. The MOOC will include short videos that demonstrate key ideas, interesting experiments, or aspects of the cutting-edge statistics research that is going on here in the University. Participants will get the chance to explore statistics for themselves, making use of interactive applets that allow them to get stuck into real data, and discussing their ideas with others on the course. Not only will they learn the essentials of statistics, but they will also learn how to interpret and evaluate the kinds of statistics encountered in everyday life.
The MOOC is being developed by Mathematics Engagement Officer Mairi Walker, alongside Thomas Bayes' Chair of Statistics Ruth King and Professor of Technology Enhanced Science Education Chris Sangwin.
