Jelle Hartong awarded a Leverhulme Research Project
Jelle Hartong has been awarded a Leverhulme Research Project worth over £160,000 entitled 'What is Non-Relativistic Quantum Gravity and is it Holographic?'. Understanding the marriage between quantum physics and gravity has been one of the main challenges in theoretical/mathematical physics. Gravity (without quantum effects) is described by Einstein's theory of general relativity. Recently Jelle showed that the regime in which general relativity becomes Newtonian gravity is richer than has been appreciated. This new theory is called non-relativistic gravity and sits between Newtonian and Einsteinian gravity. Studying the nature of non-relativistic quantum gravity has been largely ignored by the community. The aim is to explore this uncharted corner of physics which is expected to give us important new insights into quantum gravity.
