PhD studentships in Mathematics for the Earth and Environment
The Edinburgh Earth & Environment Doctoral Training Partnership is offering PhD studentships funded by NERC for a September 2014 start. Four of these are available in the School of Mathematics:
- Testing the linear response theory as a tool for assessing climate sensitivity in the atmosphere-ocean system with realistic time-dependent climatology, supervised by Michal Branicki;
- Quantifying ice sheet uncertainty from observations using inverse methods, supervised by James Maddison;
- Statistical reservoir analysis as a tool for optimising production of oil and gas and minimising escape of injected CO2, supervised by Peter Richtarik;
- Modelling the interactions between inertial waves and turbulence in the ocean, supervised by Jacques Vanneste.
Applications are through the Edinburgh Earth & Environment project list. See here for details. The application deadline is 24 January 2014.
