Monse Guedes Ayala Awarded JSPS Predoctoral Fellowship

PhD Student Monse Guedes Ayala has been awarded a JSPS Predoctoral Fellowship to visit the RIKEN Centre for Advanced Intelligence Project (AIP) and The University of Tokyo for four months during the autumn term of 2023. She will collaborate with researcher Pierre-Louis Poirion in Professor Akiko Takeda's team. Together, they will work on applications of random projections to solution algorithms for bilevel optimization problems. Random projection is a technique used to reduce the dimensionality of mathematical objects, while bilevel optimization problems are a class of optimization problems where at least one of the constraints of the problem is another optimization problem. Bilevel optimization has many applications in industry, such as the modelling of energy and financial markets.
