Title: Rational Tangles, Rational Knots and DNA

Abstract: This talk will discuss a new
(elementary)  proof of the classification of rational knots due to the
speaker and Sofia Lambropoulou. We will give a new
approach to the fractions of rational tangles via coloring and a new
interpretation of the square root of minus one as a tangle categorical
rotation of ninety degrees. The talk will discuss the role of rational
tangles and rational knots in the study of DNA recombination.
