Slice knots and the Alexander polynomial

In 1982 Freedman proved that a knot with trivial Alexander polynomial
is slice, i.e.  bounds a locally flat disk in the 4-ball.  We will
reprove this theorem and we will talk about a recent extension of
Freedman's theorem by myself and Peter Teichner.
