Analysis Research at Edinburgh

Analysis has long been an important activity in Edinburgh, with Maclaurin, Whittaker and Erdélyi among the illustrious past Professors in our department.

Research in analysis continues to is a thrive, and we are part of the Pure Mathematics group which received the highest possible score of 5* A in the 2001 RAE exercise followed by an equally impressive profile in the 2008 RAE (2.95 GPA).

We have a large number of links and collaborations with institutions abroad. Some of these are: Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, University of Wisconsin, UCLA, University of California Berkeley, Texas A & M, University of Illinois at Urbana, Universidad Autónoma de Mexico, Nankai University (Tianjin, China), University of Athens, University of Crete, University of Minnesota, Ecole Normale Supérieure, Brown University.

We have been part of the EC Research Training Network "HARP" which began in August 2002, and prior to that were part of the EC Network "Harmonic Analysis". The group participated in the Nankai Symposium on Nonlinear and Harmonic analysis in September 2006 - here are two pictures of us at the Great Wall of China (photo 1, photo 2). The group also participates in the LMS Network "Harmonic Analysis and PDEs" and the EC Network "PhD".
