Prof. Arend Bayer will be an invited speaker at the International Mathematical Congress (ICM) in July 2022 in St. Petersburg. The ICM is held every four years, and is the only global congress covering the entire breadth of mathematics.

Arend Bayer will speak jointly with his long-term collaborator, Prof. Emanuele Macrì (Orsay). His work is in algebraic geometry, the study of shapes and geometries arising from polynomial equations. He was selected for his work establishing the modern machinery of wall-crossing and stability conditions in derived categories as a tool to answer long-standing classical questions in algebraic geometry.
