School welcomes Chris Sangwin, the new Professor of Technology Enhanced Science Education

Dr. Chris Sangwin will be moving from Loughborough to Edinburgh in July 2015 as our new Chair of Technology Enhanced Science Education. Chris writes: "I've always been fascinated by technology and mathematics, and my work investigates technology which supports learning of mathematics and mathematical assessment online. Technology is developing at a staggering pace, alarmingly so at times, and this is already challenging how we educate students. I'm very excited at the opportunity to move to Edinburgh to join the School of Mathematics and the new Centre for Science Education." He will surely fulfil the job specifications: "These appointments in the College of Science & Engineering represent one element of a broader University investment in technology enhanced strengths in our research and teaching. The University has already made other senior academic appointments in Learning Analytics and Informatics, Digital Learning, and Continuing Education. Reporting to the relevant Head of School, candidates for these positions will be expected to provide strategic leadership in developing approaches to learning, teaching and assessment that enhance the student learning experience. An established, outstanding, international research reputation; substantial experience of teaching and supervision at both undergraduate and post graduate levels and the ability to demonstrate creative, innovative and engaging approaches to teaching, are all pre-requisites for these posts. Candidates may come from a variety of backgrounds but must be passionate about helping students to learn and must approach learning and teaching in creative, innovative and engaging ways."
