Bright Club Edinburgh

On Tuesday 26th July a group of academics from Edinburgh's universities got up on stage at the City Café and turned their research into stand-up comedy. It was the first session of Bright Club to take place in Edinburgh, but the phenomenon has already been experienced in many places in the UK, including Manchester, York, Cardiff and Newcastle.

The School of Mathematics is very proud that one of our own postgraduates, Hari Srithkantha, was one of the pioneers taking part on Tuesday. Hari is already making a name for himself in stand-up comedy, taking part in the Chortle Student Comedy Award 2011 and giving shows across Edinburgh, but Bright Club was the first time he was able to put jokes about gamma ray bursts into his routine.

The show was a sell-out success and we look forward to it becoming a monthly event! Stay updated by reading the Bright Club Edinburgh blog, which also contains a description of all the different acts who performed on Tuesday. And listen to a piece about the show on BBC Radio Scotland on Friday at 13:15.
