CfS Afternoon on Risk, Noise, and Extremes

The Centre for Statistics will be welcoming world experts on risk, noise and extreme events in a joint event with Heriot-Watt University via the Maxwell Institute.

Professor Emeritus Georg Lindgren (Lund University, Sweden), co-author of the classic Leadbetter, Lindgren, and Rootzén (1983) book on extremes of random processes is joined by world experts Jonathan Rougier (Rougier Consulting Ltd) and Jonathan Tawn (Professor at Lancaster University) for the first Centre for Statistics and Maxwell Institute "Statistics Afternoon on Risk, Noise, and Extremes", on Wednesday 30 October, 13:10-16:20 at the Bayes Centre, room G.03. Prof. Lindgren will discuss the history of Rice's formula (Steve O. Rice, 1907-1986) and how it links signal processing, statistics, and engineering. He will also present a Statistics seminar at the Bayes Centre, room 5.10, on Friday 1 November, 15:05-16:05, on applications of Rice's formula in oceanography.
