Edinburgh SIAM-IMA Student Chapter PhD Colloquium 2020

The Edinburgh SIAM-IMA Student Chapter PhD Colloquium 2020 (http://www.maxwell.ac.uk/siam-ima/PhDcolloquium2020.html) was held on February 12 at the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS).

The aim of the event was to provide PhD students from the University of Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt University the opportunity to present their research to fellow students and staff members in an informal setting. Contributions spanned a wide variety of topics, including mathematical physics, differential equations and their applications, mathematical modelling, data science and optimization.

The workshop consisted of two sessions with five 20-minute presentations each. The programme was organised in such a way that ample time was available for participants and attendants to interact and network during a coffee break in between the presentations. A workshop dinner at a local-area restaurant was arranged for speakers and provided them with an opportunity to socialise and network further.

The Edinburgh SIAM-IMA Student Chapter PhD Colloquium 2020 was generously funded by SIAM (the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics), IMA (the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications), the University of Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt University. More information regarding the Chapter's activity can be found on our website http://maxwell.ac.uk/siam-ima/; in particular, the Chapter warmly encourages PhD students from the Maxwell Institute to get in touch, should they be interested to find out more or become members themselves.
