School of Mathematics

Tribute to our colleague Davey Fitch

Davey Fitch passed away on Friday 27th September, 2019, having been fighting cancer for the last 15 months. He was only 41.

Davey joined the School almost 3 years ago as the School's first ever Business Development Officer. He was magnificent in the role, representing us all with aplomb to many different audiences within the University and well beyond. It is in large part thanks to his efforts that we have so many new and fruitful collaborations with industry, supporting people's research, postdocs, PhD students and MSc studentships, and that the School has a central position in the Bayes Centre and the City Region Deal.

It is a tiny consolation that his successes here will live on in the School, and in due course we will celebrate these and the time he was with us.

Iain Gordon, Head of School
