Letters to the Prime Minister from UK mathematicians

A letter to the Prime Minister signed by 25 leading UK mathematicians warns of the damage caused to the UK economy by the way EPSRC manages mathematical fundingĀ  - an example of a negative impact factor. The Guardian story includes the full text of the letter. The signatories include Sir Michael Atiyah (Honorary Professor) and Elmer Rees (Emeritus Professor). The first signatory of the letter is Professor Burt Totaro of Cambridge, who maintains a website devoted to ongoing developments, including a letter from Professor Michael Singer to David Willetts MP, the Minister of State for Universities and Science. Here is an earlier letter from a group of mathematicians to a Prime Minister. 375 junior mathematicians (including 6 from Edinburgh) also wrote to the Prime Minister.
