University Teacher in Mathematical Sciences Computing

To deliver teaching at all levels, particularly involving computing in the School of Mathematics’ curriculum, helping to develop courses and programmes where this is appropriate, and to undertake teaching and student support related administrative duties. The main expectation is that the postholder will lead one course per semester and be involved in the delivery of others, and help significantly with tutorial work. We currently deliver courses and are developing more across the full breadth of the mathematical sciences that rely on the use of Python and R, as well as some courses that involve MATLAB, and SAGE as well as other more bespoke programming languages. We are developing and extending the use of computing in curriculum, particularly in the areas of applied mathematics, optimization, data science and statistics, and the role holder will have the opportunity to contribute to this and implement ideas in their own areas of expertise. The School of Mathematics is seeking to appoint a University Teacher. This is a fixed-term position, focusing mainly on the School’s teaching and learning that is associated with computing, with opportunities to take part in the broader teaching & learning, and research activities in our School. The duties allocated will be dependent on the expertise of the appointee and will include delivering effective teaching to undergraduate and/or taught postgraduate programmes.

The role will also include involvement in assessment of students, helping to develop courses and programmes where this is appropriate, and teaching-related administration. The School takes career development seriously: we will mentor the postholder to develop key skills and experiences in teaching and learning.

A PhD in the Mathematical Sciences or related discipline, with extensive experience of computing, knowledge of the Python language, and experience of teaching at University level are essential, as well as the ability to demonstrate effective team working, communication and interpersonal skills.

This post is full time and fixed term for 2 years

Salary Scale: £33,797 - £40, 322 per annum.
