This page will continue to be populated with questions as we receive them.

Submit a question

1. How will the conference run virtually?

The conference will run virtually in Sococo, with Zoom being used for the live talks. Slack will be used for communication between attendees.

2. Will I receive an attendance certificate?

Attendance certificates will be produced on request. Email us with any requests.

3. Can a paper under review be part of the 'Best Student Paper' competition?

The paper may be published, submitted , or neither. It would, of course, be nice to have it published in Extremes.

4. I've not received a confirmation email for my registration / proposal / file upload / payment...?

You should recieve an automated email of confirmation. You can email us with any queries.

5. Do I need a Zoom License to take part?

Whilst the event is hosted in Zoom, you do not need a license to take part in EVA 2021,  either as a presenter or a participant. ICMS will host the call and you will join. You can join the call via the free app (downloadable here - choose "Zoom client for meetings") or via browser - although we recommend the app where possible for reliability.

While you can definitely join the call on a home computer, most institutions that do not have/support Zoom are happy for their employees to join Zoom events on their work computer. However, you should check with your home institution in advance that this is allowed.

6. How many slides should my preview / talk be?

Your previews and talks can be as many slides as you wish, as long as your presentation does not exceed the time allocated to you.

  • Talk video previews should be 3 minutes long
  • Invited talks should be 20 minutes (+ 5 minutes discussion)
  • Contributed talks should be 15 minutes (+ 5 minutes discussion)

Full guidelines can by found on the page Guidelines for Presenters

7. What should my poster look like?

Posters should be submitted in .pdf format. Full guidelines can by found on the page Guidelines for Presenters

8. When will I know if my proposal has been accepted?

We'll aim to get back to you with our decision by 3 May. Talk previews and posters are due by 17 May.

9. Where can I view the preview videos?

Invited talk preview videos and contributed talk preview videos are available to view online.

10. Can I watch the EVA talks online?

Yes. EVA 2021 talks have, where permission has been granted, been recorded. We will aim to get talks available online within 48 hours. Automated captions have been added: these will be manually edited for inaccuracies within 14 days.
