MODELLING OF RIBOSOME RECYCLING IN S. CEREVISIAE

We study the effects of ribosome recycling in mRNA translation by a driven diffusion lattice model which allows particle reinitiation.

This is motivated by 'closed loop' model of translation, with circularised mRNAs promoting ribosome recycling. We show that in the presence of  recycling the current of particles can exhibit a pronounced maximum, suggesting that there is an optimal concentration of ribosomes for some mRNAs which maximises their translation rate.

Moreover, we investigate how particle recycling changes the boundaries between different phases of particle flow, showing that when the recycling rate is high enough there is no direct low to high density phase.
