A brief description of the power planning generation model for a long term will be presented. One approach to solve this problem is through a heuristic procedure which generates a succession of similar problems. They are solved using an infeasible interior point method. Warm starting is a wise strategy to speed up to the new solution. Different warm start approaches will be presented together with its performance. Finally an extension of the problem to optimize the maintenance periods will be introduced. The use of warm starts in the branch and bound process seems a promising subject.
