Choosing between random variables
Wednesday 23 March 2005 at 15.30, JCMB 5327

Abstract

We consider the decision-making situation of choosing between elements of a given set of random variables. The concepts of efficient sets and mean-risk models are introduced. There is special focus on discrete random variables with probabilities fixed.

Mean-risk models are discussed with respect to preservation of convexity and stochastic dominance consistency. Interpretations are made in terms of the geometry of the disperson space and its dual.
