Revision Sessions

I helped run, as a tutor, the following sessions:

Lothian Equal Access Programme for Schools (LEAPS) Summer School 2010 - to introduce students about to start their undergraduate studies to some of the mathematics they will meet as first year undergraduates.

Higher revision, March 27, 2009 and March 26, 2010 - an afternoon revision event for S5 (15-17 year olds) students from selected schools in Edinburgh.

Advanced Higher revision, December 11, 2009 - an afternoon of revision for pupils from selected schools in Edinburgh preparing for their Advanced Higher Mathematics examination (the final Scottish school qualification).

Science Communication in Action

In April 2011, I was a demonstrator at the 2011 Edinburgh Science Festival mathematics exhibition "Winning Ways".

In 2010, I did the Science Communication in Action (SCiA) course designed for students to develop their communication skills and gain practical experience communicating their subject to general audiences. As part of the SCiA course, I undertook the following public engagements:

A talk during a Higher Revision Session to a group of 30 S5 students (15-17 year-olds) on my research work (Compressed Sensing) as an example of a real application of mathematics in order to motivate then study mathematics at university. talk slides

A talk during a LEAPS S2 Workshop to another 30 students (12-14 year-olds), on applications of mathematics also, for motivational purposes. talk slides
