Hi! I'm a postgraduate student at the University of Edinburgh, having joined in 2006. Before that I was a student at the University of Bath. You can retrieve my contact details from the shiny new department website here. I have an occasionally-updated 'blog, Modulo Errors, where you can find most of my mathematical writings, from undergraduate material through to research notes.

Beyond maths, I'm interested in rock climbing and abseiling, and can regularly be found at Alien Rock 1, as well as occasional bouldering at Alien 2 or in Holyrood Park, or jumping off unreasonably large objects.

I also enjoy taking photos, some of which can be found in my gallery. Oh, and I'm building a robot. As you do.

Research

My studies are in Number Theory under the supervision of Chris Smyth. Some of the things I think about include: matrices with constrained eigenvalues; elliptic divisibility sequences and elliptic nets; elliptic curve points of small height; elliptic curve cryptography. My work tends to be of a computational nature; I use the SAGE computer algebra system and, for large tasks, the Eddie server cluster.

Code

Some Maple code for group theory and [hyper]elliptic curves, and SAGE objects for elliptic nets and divisibility sequences, can be found here.

Events

See this page for details on talks given, courses I attend or tutor, and events you may have met (or could meet) me at.
