Paul received his Master's degree in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford in 2003. After graduating, he worked as a Systems Engineer for BAE Systems Avionics in Edinburgh, before moving to the University of Bristol in 2005 to pursue a PhD in Aerospace Engineering, under the supervision of Arthur Richards. He obtained his Doctorate in 2009, remaining at Bristol as a post-doctoral researcher before moving to the School of Mathematics, University of Edinburgh, where he was a member of the Edinburgh Research Group in Optimization (ERGO). Since October 2012, he is a Lecturer in the Department of Automatic Control & Systems Engineering, University of Sheffield.
Paul's research interests lie broadly in control theory and optimization; more specifically, model predictive (MPC) and optimization-based control, distributed and cooperative MPC, robust and optimal control, and optimization for power and energy systems. His current research involves applied optimization and modelling for power systems and transmission networks.
