Every research group in the department runs its own seminars and workshops, but some of our postgrads have decided that they want to have a more informal setting to discuss ideas and theory. These groups are run entirely by postgraduates, and lecturers are banned from attending!
If anyone has started a new postgraduate group and would like to advertise it on this website, please let us know.
The Geometry Club meets once every week or fortnight and the members take it in turns to give mini lectures on things that people find interesting or need to know about. Meetings are extremely informal and very interactive, and often involve biscuits! (An anagram of the club's name happens to be 'Go, yet crumble'.) All postgraduates are welcome to attend (even if you're not a geometer!), and if you would like to give a talk or be on the mailing list then contact Spiros or Jesus for more details.
Formerly known as Mathematical Physics Speaker’s Corner, the EMPJ is run by a group of students from both Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt. It meets once a fortnight before EMPG seminars to discuss ideas in mathematical physics, and sometimes to give a preseminar to the main EMPG talk. Contact Patricia if you want to get involved.
The Analysis Club aims to have an informal series of talks on topics in harmonic analysis and PDE. Meetings are also very informal and interactive. Let George know if you would like to give a talk or you want to be added to the mailing list to receive details of upcoming talks.
