Abstract

Toric Varieties are getting trendy lately, due to its applications to Mirror Symmetry and String Theory. In addition several geometric properties of classical Algebraic Geometry are easy to check and apply in the case of Toric Varieties. Unfortunately most of their internal structure and their lattices are not known by mathematicians who apply them to other fieds. I will define and describe the different ways of characterising Affine Toric Varieties through their lattices and, time permitting, I will explain their relation with fans and abstract Toric Varieties. Little or none Algebraic Geometry will be assumed
