Applications are invited for the WILLIAM GORDON SEGGIE BROWN Research Fellowship in Mathematics or Mathematical Physics, tenable at the School of Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh. The Fellowship will commence on the 1st September 2012 or as agreed, and run for a period of two years, with an extension for a further year subject to satisfactory progress.

Candidates will be expected to pursue advanced study and research on a full-time basis and to contribute to research activity within the School of Mathematics, so they should show considerable promise in research, and would normally have a PhD. Applicants must explain their current research interests and outline the research they plan to undertake for the period of the fellowship.

The starting salary will be in the range of £ 29,972 - £ 35,788, depending on experience. Seggie Brown's article On the Faraday-Tube Theory of Electro-Magnetism was published posthumously in 1922 in the Proceedings of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. It was accompanied by an extended intellectual biography. Both are provided courtesy of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
