Durng this season, Curitiba frequently experiences heavy, torrential rainfall.
Currency and money
The currency in Brazil is Brazilian Real (BRL). The excange rates (December 2010) are roughly as follows:
1 USD = 1.72 BRL 1 EUR = 2.25 BRL
Besides the airport, you can exchange money at a mall called
"Shopping Italia" (see the map in the link below). There are
other places in the same street (Rua Marechal Deodoro) where you
can exchange money. The rates at those places are usually better
than the ones at the airport.
Most restaurants and stores in Curitiba accept credit
cards. Check with your bank about the conditions of using your
credit card in Brazil.
Map: The region of the hotel and the conference site
(Praça Santos Andrade) as shown by Google Maps.
As shown in the above map, it is a 15-minute walk from the
hotel to the conference site at Praça Santos Andrade. Don't
forget your umbrella: December in Curitiba is a warm season with
sudden rains.
Transfer from airport to hotel
There are essentially three options.
By Taxi. The taxi from the airport to the hotel will cost aorund BRL 60.00.
You can hire a taxi cab inside the arrivals terminal. Most credit cards are accepted. This is the
recommended option if you are arriving after 6pm.
Airport Executivo. A bus service that costs BRL 8.00, see
their
website. This is a good option if you don’t mind walking a
little. Its bus stop that is closest to the Hotel is called
Teatro Guaira (see map). However, you can ask the driver (prior
to getting onto the bus) to stop at Rua Comendador Macedo, which
is very close to the hotel. See the map for details.
Aiport Line. BRL 2.20, BRL 1.00 on
Sundays. This is a standard urban bus line in Curitiba. Its bus
station looks like a tube (see pictures).
To catch this bus, you have to look for a tuby bus station like the
ones in the above pictures. There is one just in front
of the Arrivals Terminal at the Curitiba Airport. You have to stop
at the Circulo Militar Tube Station and walk a few blocks to get
to the hotel (see the map).
