Photo of Ben Goddard I am currently a lecturer in the School of Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh. Previous to this, I have been a postdoc in the groups of Serafim Kalliadasis (Imperial College, Chemical Engineering) and Volker Betz (University of Warwick, Mathematics, now TU Darmstadt, Mathematics). I undertook my PhD under Gero Friesecke (University of Warwick, Maths, now TU Munich, Mathematics).

Broadly speaking, my research concerns modelling, analysis and numerics for complex, multiscale systems. My work has applications in chemistry, physics, engineering and biology. Both the areas and techniques used in my research are very broad-ranging. I'm always happy to discuss my work with anyone, especially mathematicians, applied scientists and prospective PhD students.

You can see more information on my research and publications on other pages of this website. You may also be interested in my Google scholar page.

Trivia:

I have Erdös number 5: Me --> Gero Friesecke --> Georg Dolzmann --> Vladimir Šverák --> David Preiss --> Paul Erdös, and Bacon number 4: Me --(G103)--> Patrick Niknejad --(Harry Potter)--> Daniel Radcliffe --(The Tailor of Panama)--> David Hayman --(Where the Truth Lies)--> Kevin Bacon.

This gives me an Erdös-Bacon number of 9.
