School of Mathematics

Learning spaces

The School of Mathematics has invested in dedicated spaces for our students to meet up and study, on top of all the facilities available University-wide.

MathsBase

The MathsBase is our dedicated study and help centre for first-year students. You can work here with other mathematics students, and tutors from the first-year mathematics courses are available throughout the day if you need help.

Maths Hub

The Maths Hub is an informal social and study space for students in second-year and above. As well as a small kitchen and several sofas, there are large tables for working in groups and an adjoining room for quiet study.

Teaching Studios

Small-group teaching takes place in “teaching studios”, with multiple groups working in the same room. You will normally be working around a table with 4 or 5 other students, with a tutor on-hand to help.

Computer Labs

All of our degrees involve some element of mathematical programming, and this is a particular focus in the Applied Mathematics and Mathematics & Statistics degrees. You will also learn to use the same software that professional mathematicians use to write up their work.

Libraries

You will have access to various libraries across the University, including the Murray Library which houses most of the mathematics books and journals, and the Main Library which is one of the largest academic libraries in the world.
