PhD Opportunities

Projects in Applied and Computational Mathematics

The Maxwell Institute Graduate School in Modelling, Analysis & Computation (MAC-MIGS) offers great  opportunites for postgraduate research in Applied and Computational Mathematics at Edinburgh. MAC-MIGS is a 4-year PhD programme focussed on the formulation, analysis and implementation of state-of-the-art mathematical and computational models.  Consult the MAC-MIGS web page for details of the programme and its application procedure, as well as a list of possible PhD topics.

Other opportunities are available through the Applied & Computational Mathematics PhD (see also the School's Postgraduate Research pages) and, for projects in Geophysical Fluid Dynamics, through the Edinburgh Earth, Ecology & Environment NERC DTP. Contact possible supervisors who will be able to advise on the best route to secure a PhD place.

PhD projects are offered on the topics listed below.

Data Science

Data-driven models, inverse problems, uncertainty quantification

Materials: Models and Simulation

Molecular dynamics, stochastic models, optics

Fluid Dynamics

Geophysical and astrophysical fluids, complex fluids

Mathematical Biology

Stochastic and computational methods applied to biology

Nonlinear Dynamics and Asymptotics

Dynamical systems, nonlinear waves, asymptotic analysis
