School wins new Centre for Doctoral Training

The School of Mathematics is proud to announce that it, in partnership with the School of Mathematics and Computing Sciences at Heriot-Watt, has been awarded one of the new Centres for Doctoral Training which have today been announced by George Osborne. The University of Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt University will host the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Mathematical Analysis and its Applications: Maxwell Institute Graduate School in Analysis & Applications (MIGSAA), which is one of 22 new centres in the UK to provide postgraduate training in engineering and the sciences.

The Maxwell Institute Graduate School in Analysis and its Applications offers a unique fully integrated PhD programme which will train 60 students to the highest international standards. Students will receive broad training in theory, stochastics, numerics and applications and will emerge with multiple skill sets designed to deal with the sophisticated challenges arising in academia, industry and commerce. The approach will be founded on rigorous mathematical analysis in the context of collaboration with industry. The programme will be jointly operated by the University of Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt University and students will receive PhDs awarded jointly by the institutions.
