Maxwell Institute Colloquia

on Applications of Mathematics

The Maxwell Institute Colloquium

Established in 2006, the Maxwell Institute Colloquium series brings to Edinburgh distinguished mathematicians or mathematical scientists whose body of work has helped to establish or develop an important area of research. Besides giving one or several lectures on his work, the colloquium speaker also meets with staff and postgraduate students for informal discussions. In most cases, the Colloquium will be accompanied by a one-day meeting on a related topic

About the Maxwell Institute

The Maxwell Institute aims to be an internationally pre-eminent centre for research and for postgraduate training in the mathematical sciences, and to offer an environment that is able to attract and foster the very best mathematical talent from around the world. The Maxwell Institute brings together within a single body the research activities of Uof E's School of Mathematics and the Department of Mathematics and Department of Actuarial Mathematics & Statistics at Heriot Watt University. It is part of the Edinburgh Research Partnership in Engineering and Mathematics, recently established by Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt Universities, which consists of five joint research institutes and a joint graduate school.

Attendance

Everyone is welcome at these events. They are specifically intended to bring staff and research students from the Maxwell Institute partnership institutions (University of Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt University) into contact with new areas of research. And this applies to staff in mathematics as well as those in other departments. Staff and students from other campuses are also welcome to participate. At this time, no fee of any kind is envisioned for registration to attend either colloquia or associated one-day meetings. For those arriving from other institutions for the purpose of attending these events, please note that arrangements for accommodation, meals and transportation are generally the responsibility of the attendees.
